Homestead proved to be one of my worst runs this season. I had much
higher hopes going there, but I knew the car
was not the best after running 'Happy Hour'. My crew worked diligently
trying get the right combination, but after
qualifying 35th, we knew we still had a lot of work ahead of us.
We never did get the car dialed in where it needed to be, and ended up
going a lap down way to early. As if that wasn't
enough, watching our gasman Peter Jellen erupt in flames was extremely
scary. The fire was extinguished quickly, but not before Peter
suffered some minor burns on his hand and neck. Not a good day for the
#18 Interstate Batteries team!
I couldn't have been more happier seeing Tony Stewart take the 2002
Championship. They've been about as consistent as you can get
this year, and that's what it takes to win championships. My
congratulations go out to the entire #20 Home Depot team.
While this race ended on another typical low note, we have much to look
forward to in 2003. I couldn't be more excited about
the addition of Michael "Fatback" McSwain to our team and I'm looking
forward to our switch to Chevrolet.
Make sure you check the website during the off season for more of my
journal entries.
