Labonte: Qualifies 18th for MBNA 400 "A Salute to Heroes"

DOVER, Del., Friday, June 4, 2004 Bobby Labonte qualified 18th for the MBNA 400 A Race For Heroes during Bud Pole Qualifying June 4 at Dover International Speedway.

Labonte turned a lap of 22.743 seconds, 158.290 mph in the No. 18 MBNA D-Day 60th Anniversary Chevrolet. He will start on the outside of Row 9 next to rookie Casey Mears.

We made a lot of changes in the car after practice was over, Labonte said. We had a respectable run, considering that. The guys have worked hard, and I think weve got a competitive car for Sunday.

Its an interesting race with the concrete surface and all, and, hopefully, we can put this MBNA D-Day car in Victory Lane. Weve had a good year so far, but we need to get that first win.

Jeremy Mayfield won the Bud Pole at with a record time and speed of 22.288, 161.522.

The race starts at 5:30 p.m. (EST) Sunday and will be broadcast live on FOX and PRN.
