Labonte Qualifies 17th for Pocono 500

 

LONG POND, Pa., Friday, June 11, 2004 - Bobby Labonte qualified 17th for the Pocono 500 during Bud Pole Qualifying June 11 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa.

Labonte turned a lap of 52.823 seconds, 170.380 mph in the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet. He will start on the inside of Row 9 next to veteran Ken Schrader.

"We obviously didn't qualify as well as we'd like too," Labonte said. "We sort of took a chance going into qualifying, and it didn't turn out quite the way we wanted it to. But, the sun came out late, and we didn't end up as bad as we could have. It's a long race on Sunday, and we'll work on the car tomorrow and see what we can do."

Rookie Kasey Kahne won the Bud Pole at with a track record time and speed of 52.164, 172.533.

The Pocono 500 starts at 1 p.m. (EST) Sunday and will be broadcast live on FOX and MRN.
