Bud Pole Qualifying Washed Out - Labonte to Start 13th
LOUDON, N.H., Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 – Rain caused Bud Pole Qualifying to be canceled Sept. 17 at New Hampshire International Speedway and the starting line-up was determined by points, which means Bobby Labonte will start 13th in the Sylvania 300 on Sept. 19.
Labonte was one of 16 cars that made qualifying attempts before rain began falling at the Speedway. Labonte had turned the second-fastest lap of the session with a time of 28.988 seconds.
“I wish we could have gone a little bit better than that,” Labonte said. “But the guys did a great job. We struggled here the first race and at both races last year. I'd like to have seen this thing go on (not be rained out,) because I think we'd have a better starting position than what the points situation might lend us. I'm still really proud of all the guys. Brandon (Thomas, crew chief) did a really good job this week getting into this race. We had a good car last weekend. We've just got to keep working on it.”
The Sylvania 300 will start at 1 p.m. (EDT) Sept. 19 and be broadcast live on TNT and MRN.
