Charlotte Qualifying Notes and Quotes

CONCORD, N.C., Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004 – Bobby Labonte qualified 34th during Bud Pole Qualifying Oct. 14 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.

Labonte turned a lap of 29.506 seconds, 183.014 mph in the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet. The qualifying effort was done in a back-up car after Labonte crashed in Turn 3 during practice earlier in the day.

“That wasn’t the lap we wanted,” Labonte said. “We crashed earlier in the day and tore the back end of the car up pretty good in Turn 3. I just spun and caught the wall. The guys worked hard to get the back-up ready, but we didn’t have much time to practice with it.”

Labonte will start on the outside of Row 17 next to veteran Jeff Green. Labonte’s teammate, Tony Stewart, qualified 15th in The Home Depot Chevrolet with a lap of 29.170, 185.122.

During Busch Series qualifying, Labonte qualified 16th with a lap of 29.947, 180.319 in the No. 18 Banquet Chevrolet. He will start on the outside of Row 8 next to Dave Blaney.

The Busch race will start at 8 p.m. (EDT) Oct. 15 and be broadcast live on TNT and PRN. The UAW-GM Quality 500 will start at 7 p.m. (EDT) Oct. 16 and be broadcast live on NBC and PRN.
