Labonte Looks For Better Luck at Chicagoland
Chex Most Popular Driver Scheme on #43
This weekend, Bobby Labonte and the #43 ChexMostPopularDriver.com Dodge team head to the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway, located in Joliet, Illinois for Sunday’s USG Sheetrock 400. Labonte will be racing the “What’s Your Mix” Dodge this weekend to help promote the Chex Most Popular Driver website.
Labonte and General Mills will be making an announcement this Sunday morning at 10:00am in the media center.
Labonte will be making his sixth start at Chicagoland this weekend. Labonte’s best start at the track is 11th. His best finish is 13th last year. Labonte hasn’t finished worse than 18th in races that he has completed at Chicagoland. Labonte will prepare for Sunday’s race by running the Busch race Saturday afternoon for Brewco Motorsports.
Questions for Labonte as he prepares for this weekend’s USG Sheetrock 400:
Can you describe the last two weeks?
“They have been a little frustrating because we haven’t had the results that we wanted or think we should have had. Sonoma (Infineon) was just a bad deal because we got spun around early. That just put us behind all day. We had a good car, but didn’t get a chance to really prove it.
“Daytona, we just left there with broken hearts. We didn’t qualify where we wanted, but we showed that we had a good car. We knew the Cheerios Dodge was good earlier in the week. It was a great run for us. We were in position to easily have a top-five finish and who knows? But, we came out of Daytona with a finish we didn’t deserve. That’s just part of it. I think we’ve shown a lot of people that we’re here. We’re racing 10th to 15th every weekend and we’re inside the top-10 some of those weeks too. We’re better than what some of the results show.”
How do you feel about Chicagoland?
“I feel pretty good. I think Todd (crew chief Todd Parrott) and the guys on this team have worked hard. They have been doing that all season. I think we’ll have a good car for this weekend.
“We’ve had good cars all season. We just haven’t had the finishes the past couple of weeks. We want to get back inside the top 20 in points and go from there. We are racing like that, but little things have got us. That stuff will work itself out and we’ll keep working to make that happen. We want it to start this weekend.”
What are the goals for the second half of the season?
“We want to continue to build the foundation for the future of this team and for Petty Enterprises. We have great supporters in General Mills, Coca-Cola, Wells Fargo, Dodge and others. We have a lot of fans too that want to see this ‘43’ run strong. I think we have proved to everyone that we are a strong team. We’re not where we want to be, but we’re excited about how things have gone so far.
“This is an intense business. It takes a lot of effort and hard work to win. I see that every day at Petty Enterprises. I see it when I walk through the doors. That’s exciting. We just have to put the finishes on the board. We’ve had some top-10 and a top-five finish. Hopefully we can pick up a lot more from here on in. The goal is always to win. We want to do that really, really bad too.” |
