HENRICO COUNTY, VA (September 8, 2006) - Bobby Labonte and the #43 STP Dodge team qualified 27th for Saturday night’s Richmond 400. Labonte is supporting the STP colors for the second time this season. For every lap that Labonte completes STP will donate $43 to the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
“We’re hoping to donate a lot of money,” said Labonte. “We’re going to have to do some work to get to the front. But, we we’re pretty good in practice (11th). I think we’ll have a good car for the race. ”
Kyle Petty and the #45 Marathon/American Spirit Oil Dodge team qualified 38th and guaranteed Petty’s 775th career start Saturday night. Petty, supporting the Marathon paint scheme at Richmond was 21st fastest in practice. The car was a bit tight in qualifying, but Petty will be ready to race once again tomorrow night.
“I’ve been around a long time to make 775 career starts,” said Petty. “It’s just a number. We just care about getting this Marathon/American Spirit Motor Oil Dodge up front. We didn’t qualify where we wanted, but we’ll work on it all night. Paul (Andrews) and the guys will help us get a good run.”
Denny Hamlin won the pole for Saturday night’s 400-lap race. Hamlin, a Nextel Cup rookie, won the pole Friday evening at the .75-mile track. Hamlin will set the pace in the last race before the championship ‘chase’ begins next weekend. All the attention is on Kasey Kahne. Kahne sits 11th in the point standings, but is in striking distance of the top-10 and making the chase. Kahne qualified 20th.
Saturday night’s race will be televised live nationally on TNT and broadcast on MRN Radio. Race coverage begins at 7:00pm (EST). |
