Best Buy 400 Qualifying Report

No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge
May 30, 2008
1-mile Dover (Del.) International Speedway

QUALIFYING RESULTS:
1. Greg Biffle, Ford
2. Kurt Busch, Dodge
3. Kyle Busch, Toyota
4. Jimmie Johnson, Chevrolet
5. Jamie McMurray, Ford
19. Bobby Labonte, No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge
45. Chad McCumbee, Richard Petty Driving Experience Dodge

Greg Biffle laid down the quickest lap of the qualifying session for the Best Buy 400 Benefiting Student Clubs for Autism Speaks at the Dover International Speedway. Dodge Motorsports driver, Kurt Busch, will start alongside when the field takes the green flag on Sunday afternoon.

The ambient temperature was one of the hottest of the year so far. As the temperature increases, most tracks tend to lose grip. Many drivers found it difficult to back up their practice times, which started at 11:30 am. However, each manufacturer was able to grab a spot inside the first two rows.

Bobby Labonte and the No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge team will start the Best Buy 400 from the 19th position. Labonte is a former winner of this race, taking the checkered flag in 1999. He toured the one-mile oval in 23.654 seconds, which made him one of the few drivers to mirror his practice lap. That should bode well for the team tomorrow as they look to build on the momentum of a strong run in last weekend’s Coca-Cola 600.

“Well, we were 19th in practice and we were 19th in qualifying order. We don’t want to finish 19th on Sunday,” said Labonte. “When the sun is blazing, like it was today, Dover really becomes the ‘Monster Mile. You carry a lot of speed into the corner here and you don’t want to slide around. The Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge team did a good job today. We were happy with how practice went and we should be in good shape for Sunday.”

Sunday’s race will be televised live on FOX. It will be broadcast live on the Motor Radio Network (MRN) and Sirius Channel 128. Pre-race coverage is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. (EST).
